Mil is a graduate of Wartburg College, Iowa; and Luther Theological Seminary, Minnesota. He has served as a pastor in Fremont, Nebraska; Olathe, Kansas; Sterling, Colorado; and Bonell Good Samaritan Community, Greeley, Colorado.

A native of North Dakota, his interests and hobbies include computer club, digital photography, music and traveling.

His wife, Kathryn, is a retired school social worker. Their married daughter has four children, all residing nearby in Sterling.
